George holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Johannesburg and an MBA from the University of Cape Town. He began his investment career at Investec Asset Management in 1995, where he helped formalise investment processes and launch specialist boutiques. Following Investec’s acquisition of Guinness Flight in 1999, he relocated to London as Chief Investment Officer and rebuilt the investment team.

In 2006, he became CEO of Stanlib Asset Management and later took over the broader group, focusing on operational improvements and transformation. He stepped down in 2009 after the global financial crisis. In 2011, he joined Macquarie Securities as Head of Research, rebuilding the team and restoring its performance before leaving amid retrenchments. He now runs a consulting practice advising fund selectors and financial advisers.
